In a Tuesday night meeting of the Truth or Consequences City Commission, Mayor Steve Green presented a formal proclamation designating Saturday, November 26th, 2016 as “Small Business Saturday”, and urged all residents to support local businesses.
The Mayor cited statistics in support of the proclamation. Small businesses:
- Create 2/3 of all new jobs
- Generate 54% of all U.S. sales
- Employ 55% of U.S. workers
The Mayor also put the day in context, noting that so-called “big box” retailers have their “Black Friday” shopping event, and online retailers have their “Cyber Monday” sales.
Small Business Saturday is promoted in coordination with the local Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Truth or Consequences.
