In a Tuesday night meeting, the Truth or Consequences City Commission voted unanimously to approve the application for a Small Brewers License by Truth or Consequences Brewing Company. The vote was conducted at the request of the New Mexico Alcohol and Gaming Division (AGD), as part of a legal process that requires local support for newly issued alcohol licenses. During the hearing, three citizens spoke in favor of the project, and none were opposed.
The approval is a milestone for the brewery-to-be, and clears the way for AGD to proceed with processing the application.
Brewery co-founder John Masterson told city commissioners, “We are in the midst of multiple complex processes to open this brewery: state and federal licensing, technical engineering, financing, and most recently, working to select a local contractor. Renovation will start very soon, and everything is moving forward.”
The brewery is slated to open in 2017 at 410 Broadway in downtown Truth or Consequences. Since the project began in March, the company has provided a monthly update newsletter via email and Facebook, and printed archives are presented in the storefront’s window for passers-by.
