Lyft, a rideshare competitor to Uber, has driving gigs available in Truth or Consequences, which is included in their Las Cruces metro area designation.
To drive for Lyft, you need:
- valid driver’s license
- valid insurance
- ownership of a vehicle in good working order with at least 4 doors no older than 2005
- smartphone such as Apple or Android
With Lyft, smartphone owners with the app installed simply tap to request a ride, and the nearest Lyft drivers are notified in real time. Drivers accept ride requests based on their availability.
Sierra County has limited transportation options currently. One private ride-request service exists (Your Ride, 740-1988), and a shuttle service operates on summer weekends, but there is no regular bus or taxi service. Tourists looking for safe rides around the area often have Lyft installed on their smartphones already.
